It can be any type of association (choir, chess club, stamp collectors….whatever). It’s the legal structure that enables a group to do things like open a bank account, rent a meeting room, negotiate facilities with the town hall.

Insurance

It’s essential that you insure your event against accident or injury. There’s a lot that can go wrong. For example, someone gets burned while boiling water or cooking at a barbecue, someone breaks their arm by falling during a sporting activity, falls off a bike while playing, or loses their teeth on the bouncy castle… There’s no way to be sure that accidents won’t happen. So you need to make sure your event is covered by insurance.

For the majority of events held in public places, you must have an insurance policy that includes the minimum liability coverage required by law. For larger events or street closures on high-mobility streets, this can be more.

Insurance cannot usually be taken out by an individual for such events, but will have to be taken out by a legally recognized company or charity.
